Janosch Cerqueira Thalmann (1996)

Hi, I go by the name of Janosh CT. Art for me is one of the most significant ways to understand each other. It holds us together and helps us to break down barriers. It’s a source of inspiration that drives us.

My passion began to develop when I was a little boy.  The stories about my artistically active grandfather and my mother’s paintings made me want to pick up the colored pencils myself. I started to draw objects or images I had right next to me. A few years later I expanded my creative hobbies with playing piano and listening to Hip-Hop music. It was at this time when music became a big importance to my artistic movements.

As the end of my compulsory schooling approached, I had to decide on a career path. That’s when I made the decision to start an apprenticeship as an architectural draftsman – partly because of the possibility to be creative and to use drawing as an important skill. During my apprenticeship I drew a lot in my free time and started to try new techniques. I developed a passion for oil paintings and the artstile “realism”. The motifs of my work began to take on deeper meanings and I wanted to have a positive impact to others. This also happened because of the influence of music artists like Kendrick Lamar or J. Cole. Their music often made my day. The inspiration I felt brought me closer to my art, to life and made me want to inspire others.

After my apprenticeship, I wanted to push ahead with my artistic work. Besides working in an architectural office I did the baccalaureate in art options and opened my first art studio. During this time, I also tried to acquire new skills and be inspired by new styles. I found pleasure in figurative art, expressionism and faster painting techniques.

The mixture of my experiences in different art styles and techniques makes me the artist I am today. I like to alternate and use different elements / find new solutions. I don’t want to limit myself with my art, but see it as a means of broadening my horizons.

In addition to my work as an artist, I have since completed a bachelor’s degree in urban planning and joined EBP Schweiz AG as an urban planner.
