Description

The oil painting “Vem Doce” is dedicated to the Brazilian singer Vanessa da Mata. Brazilian culture and music have been part of my life for as long as I can remember – I feel a deep connection to them. The themes and emotions in Brazilian music often move me and, in many ways, reflect the way I think.

Vanessa da Mata’s music holds a special place for me. Her songs inspire me in a very unique way. After experiencing her music live for the first time on May 7, 2024 in Zurich, I felt a strong urge to create a painting of her.

Throughout the entire painting process, I listened almost exclusively to her music or other Brazilian sounds. The result is a portrait of Vanessa da Mata, painted in a dissolved, expressive style. It was inspired by the album cover of the same name, “Vem Doce”, on which she is also portrayed.

The painting expresses my personal connection to her music – and is also an homage to the lightness, depth, and sensuality that Brazilian music and culture represent to me.
