Ekstasis
Description
The title of this work comes from Ancient Greek: Ekstasis – the state of stepping outside oneself, of being transported.
It refers to an altered state of consciousness, trance-like, in which the boundaries between body, mind, and world dissolve.
In ancient belief, moments of ecstasy were thought to cause the soul to leave the body – a detachment from the self, a liminal state between this world and the beyond.
The painting offers a visual exploration of this inner condition: the rupture of reality, the subtle drifting apart of body and awareness.
It is an invitation to introspection – and at the same time, a confrontation with the possibility of losing oneself in order to return transformed.
